IHG One Rewards status guide: tiers, challenges and mattress run math
IHG One Rewards has four elite tiers: Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond, earned by nights or points. Platinum normally needs 40 nights, and IHG's challenge is the cheapest fast-track of the four big programs.
IHG One Rewards status tiers explained
IHG One Rewards spans Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza, Kimpton, Hotel Indigo, InterContinental and Six Senses. Its qualifying nights are the least expensive of the four programs, which makes it the natural first tier jump.
| Tier | Standard requirement | Key benefits |
|---|---|---|
| Silver Elite | 10 nights or 20,000 points | 20% bonus, extended checkout |
| Gold Elite | 20 nights or 40,000 points | 40% bonus, welcome amenity |
| Platinum Elite | 40 nights or 60,000 points | 60% bonus, room upgrades, guaranteed availability |
| Diamond Elite | 70 nights or 120,000 points | 100% bonus, best available upgrades, milestone rewards |
- IHG lets points earning substitute for nights, which opens more than one route to a tier.
- Kimpton and Hotel Indigo apply elite benefits generously, so Platinum feels stronger than the chart suggests.
- The five-night Platinum challenge is our most popular product by volume.
Status challenge rules
- IHG runs status challenges for members who already hold status elsewhere or via promotions.
- Points can substitute for nights, so spend can also lift you to a tier.
- The challenge must be completed inside its stated window.
- One challenge per member is the normal limit.
Rules change often. Check the current terms on the IHG One Rewards website before you start.
Mattress run math
Using an estimated $70.00 per qualifying night (a typical low-cost IHG night; real prices vary by city and date):
| Route to Platinum Elite | Nights | Estimated night cost |
|---|---|---|
| Standard qualification | 40 | $2,800.00 |
| Status challenge | 5 | $350.00 |
Formula: nights needed x average night price = cost of the nights. Add any service fee on top. Compare the total with the value you expect from the tier benefits over the year.
